Mystery Readers Meeting, December 15

The next Mystery Readers meeting will be held on December 15th at 6:30 pm in the Visalia Library's upstairs "blue" meeting room. There will be no book to read this month--instead, we will be playing the Yankee Swap game with books. To participate, please bring a gift wrapped book (a new or gently used paperback or hardcover) with no name on the package. The book you receive in the swap (or one you get for the Holidays) will be the book you'll discuss at January's meeting. Duffy Hudson Performs A Christmas Carol, December 2

The entire family is invited to a free performance of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol on December 2 at the Visalia Library. The performance, given by actor Duffy Hudson, will begin at 6:30 PM in the children's wing of the library. For more information, please contact Judith Wood at 713-2706.

Friends' Author Night, October 23

It will be "Love at First Bite" when cookbook author Gina Meyers demonstrates "Werewolf Chow" and blood red velvet cake from her latest books, Bite at Twilight and Twilight Trivia. This family-friendly event will be a howling good time! The event is Saturday, October 23, 7 p.m. is free and open to the public. The program takes place at the Visalia Branch Library, 200 W. Literary Basket Drawing

The Friends’ Literary Baskets are back, and we have some great ones for you this year. Tickets are just $1.00 each. If you wish to enter the drawing, simply purchase the number of tickets you wish to enter – be sure to fill out the ticket and mark which basket number you wish to win, then put the tickets in the correct box at the check out desk before April 23rd.

Photos of the baskets will be on display at the Visalia Library until April 23rd, and the drawing will be that evening at a free Friends’ Author Fair event where you can meet some of our local authors. You do not have to be present to win.

Local Author to Discuss History of the San Joaquin Valley Railroad

Local author and historian, John Bergman, will speak about his book, The Southern San Joaquin Valley: A Railroad History, Fresno to Bakersfield, at the Visalia library on March 12th. This event--sponsored by the Friends of the Tulare County Library--begins at 7:00 PM and will feature a model railroad layout provided by the Visalia Electric Railroad Modelers. The Friends of the Library are selling sets of romance novels at the great price of $1 just in time for Valentine's Day. Each set contains 3 novels bound in colorful ribbon with candies attached. Please look for them on display in front of the circulation desk.

Mystery Readers Meeting

The next Mystery Readers meeting will be held on February 17th at 6:30 PM in the Visalia Library's upstairs meeting room.

For the February meeting, read any mystery written by Robert B. Parker. Parker wrote hard boiled Private Eye novels--39 Spenser novels, 10 Jesse Stone novels, 6 Sunny Randall novels, 2 Philip Marlowe (Raymond Chandler), and 13 others including westerns and 3 non-fiction including Spenser's Boston.
